"Overlapping generation" explanation - TRANSCRIBED EXTRACT from Friday's talk (DC 2011-12)
by AnnOMaly ini thought this would be easier to examine if written down:.
god's kingdom will soon come.
so we know that god's kingdom will soon come.. .

It is even a bigger stretch when you consider to overlap with King Freddie you have to been annointed for almost 20 years. Consider GJ at 55 he was anointed on or before he was 35 approx. Given that there was still some old timers around, why did they not get the nod???

CO protested about Dylan's "Lay, Lady Lay", being about immorality, I fobbed it off by telling him it was about boy and his childhood best friend - a dog (not true, but I wanted to toy with his pea brain), he went on to say it was about probably about bestiality. Sick bastard.

Myself and another elder were trying to help a particularly obnoxious MS who felt he should be appointed an elder (this guy was a piece of work). Got pissed off at our responses and threw and kicked chairs around in the 2nd school. Never was appointed on my wtach - got appointed in another congregation.....sheesh.

According to the WT the word GB is in the Bible!
by TotallyADD inbefore i left for good i was the po and went to km school for po's in 2009 at patterson.
on the very first day class the instructor told us the word gb is biblicial.
he told us to turn to (heb 13:17) nwt reference bible which said "be obedient to those who are taking the lead among you* and be submissive" using the asterisk next to you he referred to the footnote at the bottom of the page.

To enforce a heirachial level of oversight is against God's nature. God was against the request for kings in Israel, so no different two millennia ago or now. The use of "Governor" to support a heirachical structure is stretch as nowhere can evidence be found in the bible to support it. If God wanted an organization for a universal church then it would leap out at you from the bible and would be seen early in its origins in Paul's letters, clearly structured in Acts and scriptually supported by the time the Gospels were written, which were amongst the last.
One of the oldest meanings of the word is, interestingly, "Tutor". This would fully harmonize with the rest of the bible where Jesus is spoken of as a teacher, the Law as a tutor leading to Christ, etc. The notion of a governor in a 1st century congregation would be a man or a woman (a governess) who is simply leading a Christ-like life. Being submissive to them did not mean to fall under their authority or control, but rather be humble and compliant to God and Jesus, (NOT humans) by copying their example which would benefit all in association with them, show love for their God and his son and be evidenced by the good they did for one another and their neighbours.

The Witnesses are not immune from the fall out over this, it makes their "end is soon" just as bad as "end is nigh". The lack of fullfillment of end of times prophesies of particularly the emergent ( last 100 years or so) religions only proves the bible correct when it states "it is not for you to know the times or the dates...." Just give up, get on with doing as much good as you can and when it happens it will happen. Jesue was making a very specific point at Acts 1:7 that if you focus on dates and times it will take one away from the two most important things in one's life - love God and love your neighbour, the rest will all fall into place in God's due time.
All these end of timers remind me of being on a trip with my parents and the incessent "are we there yet?" drone from the back seat, maybe its time for God to reach back and slap his hand around....maybe he has by allowing all these idiots like Camping and WBTS make fools of themselves in public.

UN & Watchtower : link deleted....
by yalbmert99 inhi everyone, someone just made me notice that the pdf document on the u.n. website proving that the watchtower associated itself as ngo from 1991(demand) to 2001 has been deleted or is missing.
http://www.un.org/dpi/ngosection/pdfs/watchtower.pdf i sent an email (very short since they don't allow more than 200 characters) to the un to inquire.
i doubt that they'll respond.i suspect that the watchtower pressured the un to deleted that link.....

Hello to everyone.... and could I ask a really basic question here please...
by JamesS ini'm james i'm new to this forum as of today and i'm a ex-jw who was "born into the truth" and then left it officially at the age of twenty after "drifting out" of it for some time.
i'm now 34 and whilst i'm not exactly happy with the world i'm living in, i'm largely happy with my own life.. one question i've got about this forum - i didn't join for a long time because i thought it was for active jw's (based on the web-site url), not ex jw's, but then looking at the threads, it seems it is more for ex-jw's!
what is the demographic for the membership?

Hello James, as you can see there is a wide variety of persons - some thinking, some doing and many long left. I stopped attending meetings over a year ago and joined this group some months before. Many gave me not necessarily the courage to turn 180 degrees but the perspective to do so. I served as an elder, CoBE, RBC and had many parts in CA and DC. I left after 25 years, as did my wife and children. I still have a sister in, thats all - here kids are all out too now.
Contrary to popular (DUBspeak) belief I found mostly everyone here very happy, content, at peace and engaging. Also extremely helpful when you need them. Nor is there excessive bitterness, pehaps more like me - a bit mad at myself for being so gullable. In dealing with problems I have found that many offer very practical help - as many have been through the gate you went through 14 years ago. I look forward to your posts and insight in the months to come. I am not a big contributor but rarely let a week past without a quick check in!
There are some sadly who masqarade as ones who have left the JW's but soon show their true light with circular arguments, dissonance and narrow-mindedness. They soon leave and the site returns to normal. There are some great commenters - Blondie, Mr Flipper, etc, some exceptional humourists like Outlaw.
all the best James,
Simon Morley
